She was named one this year's most popular teens in the July 2003 issue Vanity Fair. In 2004 Vega made two films: Sleepover, and State's Evidence. The following year, she starred in the Lifetime TV movie Odd Girl Out, as one of the victims of cyber-bullying. Walkout, a 2006 made-for TV film followed her in the role. The film was also completed Remember the Daze in April 2007. The film was released in limited cinemas. Repo is her swan song. The Genetic Opera, which was released in the year 2008. 10 years ago, Vega was confirmed to play the main character in Helix which was written and directed by Aram Rappaport. The film began filming in Chicago in March 2008. She was initially cast as the leading character in Robert Rodriguez's 2009 film Shorts. But, since she was located in Australia shooting Broken Hill at the time the film was required to change her role. Her replacement was Kat Dennings. Penny played a character was on Broadway's Hairspray. The role she played as Ruby Gallagher was on the ABC Family TV sitcom Ruby & the Rockits in 2009. It also featured Patrick Cassidy, David Cassidy, and Patrick Cassidy. Vega is Wick, a character in The Devil's Carnival from 2012 the film of director Darren Lynn Bousman. Screenwriter Terrance Zudunich worked previously with Vega in the form of Repo! The Genetic Opera.
